Andrew Rand FCA – Principal
Andrew qualified in 1989 with Baker Tilly, London. He spent 12 years practising in Mayfair; six as a partner at Thompson Taraz specialising in commercial property transactions and tax-efficient investment schemes.
Andrew founded his own practice, ‘Stanes Rand’, in central Cambridge in 2001. Following collaboration with former firm, Thompson Taraz, Stanes Rand rebranded in 2016 to become Thompson Taraz Rand.
Andrew remains at the forefront of the firm, providing comprehensive tax, business development and profit improvement advice to a wide range of businesses in East Anglia and London. He is also Partner of London based Thompson Taraz Chartered Accountants.
Andrew is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is also a registered auditor. Andrew is a licensed practitioner for ATOL reporting purposes.
In addition, in 2014, Andrew became an associated member of the Society of Share and Business Valuers.

Chris Whiteoak BSc CTA – Senior Tax Manager
Chris is a highly experienced tax specialist who joined the firm in 2019 after almost 20 years in the profession in large, international firms and small, independent practices across London and the local, Cambridge area. Chris is a fully qualified Chartered Tax Adviser with the Institute of Taxation with a ‘Big 4’ background.
Chris specialises in advising Private Clients and Owner-Managed Businesses in the Property and Technology sectors. Primarily focusing on income and capital taxes planning for individuals, families and their businesses, advice covers Entrepreneurs Relief and Business Property Relief, tax-efficient investment planning with EIS, SEIS and VCT’s, remuneration planning, wealth extraction and UK and offshore trust and estate planning. With significant experience of international, cross-border tax issues, particularly with individuals coming to or from the US, Chris also enjoys advising on Residence Status, Domicile, international tax treaties and double tax relief claims.
Chris has experience of dealing with HMRC enquiries and Worldwide Disclosures, assisting clients in bringing outstanding affairs up to date and offering peace of mind to resolve complex challenges from HMRC.
With a trusted network of local professionals across the legal and financial planning sectors, Chris will help formulate and implement complex tax and business planning advice tailored to clients’ specific circumstances to minimise risk and ensure the most tax efficient outcome.

Adrian Hoddinott – Corporate Tax and Accounting Manager
Adrian joined us in 2014 and has since then been delivering accounting, business and tax services to our Corporate, Business and Private Clients as he worked towards his ICAEW qualification. He has as of July 2018 completed his ICAEW exams and should imminently be admitted to Membership.
Adrian has particular expertise in supporting UK and International businesses with regards to their Accounting and Corporate Tax needs.
Adrian continues to grow his specialist skills in assisting clients with: Research & Development tax credits for OMBs, Capital Allowances, Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS), Seed EIS, Capital Allowances, Entrepreneur’s relief, tax efficient remuneration and other tax efficient ideas which help clients make the most of their success. Adrian is also able to assist in relation to Value Added Tax compliance and planning.
In addition, Adrian is able to provide personal tax advice to local clients with complex affairs. Adrian should be your first point of call (other than Andrew and Chris) for anything tax related and he is currently studying towards his Chartered Tax Advisor qualification.
The Audit and Accounts Team
Ben Howe FCCA – Senior Manager
Ben began his accountancy career in 2000. He trained with a local firm primarily working in their audit department dealing with a variety of clients which included charities, private schools, university colleges and owner managed businesses.
Ben joined the firm in April 2005 where he has since qualified and manages a portfolio of clients from a wide range of industries providing both audit and non-audit services. He deals with a number of clients from specialist areas which include charities, pension schemes, property management businesses, FSA regulated and general insurance businesses.
Craig Lockley FCCA – Senior Manager
Craig joined the firm in 2004 and is now a Senior Client Relationship Manager responsible for a portfolio of corporate clients. This includes a number of the firms audit clients with a particular emphasis on the hi-tech and manufacturing sectors.
Craig primarily manages the audit and assurance services for the firm’s larger clients, including the provision of grant audits. As well as providing both audit, non-audit and advisory services to clients, Craig is also jointly responsible for compliance and training matters at Thompson Taraz Rand.
While Craig focuses on the technology and manufacturing sectors his knowledge and experience covers an array of other industry sectors. He has a strong grasp of the many commercial, accounting and taxation issues affecting small business owners, enabling Craig to provide the planning, advice and support to business owners and their companies throughout their success life cycle.
Simon Tu BSc ACA – Manager
Simon joined the firm in 2008 as a trainee, qualifying in 2013. Simon graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from King’s College, London. Having worked for HSBC in central London, he has gained valuable experience within the banking industry with particular interests in investments and corporate operations.
Simon works with a range of industries, including engineering, IT, design, communication and creative, investment property and biotechnology industries; he provides both audit and non-audit services including preparation of statutory accounts, management accounts and business plans.
